Discover Hungary: A short historical and cultural brief
Before grabbing our suitcase and flying to Hungary, it is essential to understand a little about its history and culture. Hungary is a country with a thousand facets, a melting pot of diverse influences which are reflected in its architecture, its cuisine and its traditions.
The country has existed in its current form for over a thousand years, giving it time to develop a rich cultural heritage. Hungarians are particularly proud of their history and their culture, and this can be seen in the many museums, historical monuments and traditional festivals found across the country.
Preparing for your trip: What do you need to know before you leave?
For a trip to Hungary, some formalities must be taken into account. First of all, a valid passport or identity card is sufficient for citizens of the European Union. For others, a visa may be necessary. Remember to check the entry requirements specific to your nationality.
The country is a member of the European Union but has not adopted the euro as its currency. The currency in force is therefore the Hungarian forint (HUF). It is therefore necessary to change your euros into forint upon your arrival.
In terms of health, it is recommended to take out insurance international travel covering medical care and repatriation. No specific vaccination is required to travel to Hungary.
